![]() But it’s the 163lb-ft of torque that blows you away… Again, this is helped by the fact Triumph lopped off a load of lard from the old engine, shedding 18kg and reducing the circulation mass, allowing for 7,000rpm to be unlocked and a new peak power figure of 164.7bhp – an 11 per cent increase over its forefather. But it's not. It wants to hit the twisties and move around. Looking at that engine you'd assume it’d be a straight-line torpedo that just wanted to fire itself at the horizon while you clung on and cried for help. It’s keener to turn than you’d think, too. But Triumph worked hard on it, giving the Rocket 3 an all-new frame made from two aluminium sections that are bolted around the engine, rather than welded so the central core is hollow, which allows Triumph to use the central spine of the bike as an airbox. This is largely thanks to clever weight distribution and my lack of understanding of physics. A bit like when a gym hardo has a gin and tonic and watches a rom-com. Which is even more people to point and laugh at you for dropping it in the first place.īut the almost magical element is that as soon as the tyres start rolling, it shrinks in size and its imposing nature falls away. Because if you’re anything but Popeye, if you drop this thing you’ll need a small army of helpers to help you get it back up. Being such a heffer, low-speed manoeuvring is a chore. The engine is hot and heavy and the wheelbase long. Intimidating at first, mainly because there’s so much of it. Then there’s a single-sided swing-arm with monoshock suspension and fantastic aluminium detailing littering the whole bike. Fitted with specially developed Avon Cobra Chrome tyres, the 240mm rear wheel width shows people you mean business and have oodles of torque to try and get down. It has a sort of industrial chic to it – with everything being big, brutalist and muscular but also softened off thanks to swooping curves and those sculpted triple-header exhausts. That possibly makes the Diavel more accessible, though what's a couple grand one way or another once you break the $20k barrier.Sure does. Unfortunately, Ducati's single color choice is a snoozefest with black-on-black, but the price drops off to $21,195. Consider both bikes top-shelf in that regard. The Eye-Tie falls far behind in displacement with a concurrent reduction in brute force. This is especially true when combined with the intake scoops that ride abreast of the fuel tank. This gives you at least a modicum of control over the shape of the triangle, which is more than most manufacturers can say. Tweak the position of your legs through the adjustable pilot's footpegs. Short-rise bars and the accommodating 30.4-inch seat form a constant upper line of the rider's triangle. ![]() ![]() The American Heart Association even added sleep to the list of Life’s Essentials. That’s why we’ve regularly written this year about SMS smishing campaigns that take these short, sharp and simple business messages and turn them into lures that trick you into clicking links or texting back, whereupon you get sucked into the scammers’ grasping tentacles. If all the company needs to do is say, “Your one-time login code is 314159” or “We couldn’t get hold of you, click here for more”, an SMS is simple, fast, needs no internet coverage, and will reach you even if your phone is out of credit. ![]() This could be anything that would require you to change your speed, stop, or change directions - a developing hazard.Ĭlicking at the right time shows that you identified the developing hazard and that you would have been aware enough to respond to it. You’ll need to look out for situations where that could turn into a hazard. The hazard perception test is an assessment of your awareness as a driver on the road. Instead, the DVSA theory test checks your awareness of developing hazards. But these aren’t what you’ll be tested on in the HPT. ![]() A static hazard is something like driving up to a junction or a traffic light. If you want to improve your chances of passing the DVSA HPT and multiple-choice questions on your first try, then start with our practice test questions. Plus, you can also translate what you learn from these hazard perception questions online to what you do in your practical driving lessons. They give you a chance to understand the window of reaction time that you have and how to check and review those developing hazards. That’s why practice hazard perception tests are important. But if a vehicle is emerging from a side road, it becomes a developing hazard for which you need to click. For example, approaching a side road isn’t a hazard. The key to getting the reaction time right is to identify the potential hazard and when it starts becoming a developing hazard. And if your reaction time is after the situation reaches a hazardous level, then you won’t get any points. Reacting further into the window equals fewer points from that question. If you respond just as the developing hazard appears, then you can earn the full 5 points from that question. But that is dependent on where in the window of reaction you respond. The window of reactionĮach hazard perception test question has the possibility for you to earn a maximum of 5 marks. You need to be vigilant to be able to click at just the right point in the window of reaction for your hazard perception clip. ![]() Now, you are required to click the mouse button at each developing hazard in the clips. Once the countdown is finished, the video clip will start rolling. This gives you an opportunity to become aware of your surroundings in the video clip. The HPT test formatĮach video clip starts with a freeze frame and a 10 second countdown time to when the clip will start. You will score between 0 and 5 on any one clip depending on when you click the mouse, aka you react to the developing hazard. On rare occasions, there may be a clip with no hazard shown. That means at least one of the clips will have 2 hazards. The clips are shown from the perspective of you being the driver.Īlthough there are 14 questions, there will be 15 developing hazards to identify. But one clip has two hazards, so you must click on two hazards to get points. In the HPT, you’re required to view 14 hazard video clips on a computer. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard. This pattern is repeated until all 14 video clips have been shown. You will then get a countdown into the next clip to make sure you are ready. When the clip ends the screen will turn black for a few seconds before the freeze frame for the next video clip appears. If you click lots of times in quick succession, or if you click with a regular pattern all the way through the clip (for example click every 3 seconds), you will also score zero for that clip. If this happens a warning message will be shown on the screen at the end of the clip. If you don’t click the mouse button in this window of time you will score nothing in respect to that particular hazard. If you click several times during this window of time the computer will always take your highest score and record that for the particular clip. Therefore to ensure you get a maximum score in the hazard perception test, you should fully understand the DVSA term “developing hazard”, as opposed to “potential hazard”. If you click the mouse button too early, before the potential hazard becomes a “developing hazard”, your score will be 0. ![]() The versatility of the images allows for creativity in various subjects. Man-lifting kites were made for reconnaissance, entertainment and during development of the first practical aircraft, the biplane. The same principles of fluid flow apply in liquids, so kites can be used in underwater currents, but there are no everyday uses as yet. The anchor point of the kite line may be static or moving (e.g., the towing of a kite by a running person, boat, free-falling anchors as in paragliders and fugitive parakites or vehicle). The resultant force vector from the lift and drag force components is opposed by the tension of one or more of the lines or tethers to which the kite is attached. The interaction with the wind also generates horizontal drag along the direction of the wind. The lift that sustains the kite in flight is generated when air moves around the kite's surface, producing low pressure above and high pressure below the wings. One technical definition is that a kite is “a collection of tether-coupled wing sets“. A kite may have fixed or moving anchors that can balance the kite.
